Platform for women+ artisans

For decades, the humanitarian initiatives of the Mata Amritanandamayi Math have focused on women’s empowerment. This platform aims to amplify the voices of women run businesses trained by Amrita institutions. It will potentially connect these diverse businesses to a broader audience and raise awareness about their incredible stories.

BREAKING BARRIERS

Besides training in tailoring, jewelry making, embroidery craftsmanship and other traditional sectors, our projects also include opportunities in innovative vocations. Seaweed cultivation, beekeeping, beautician training, mushroom cultivation, are just some non-traditional vocations. India’s first batch of women plumbers we also trained through our first UNDEF Women’s Empowerment Project. Youth were trained through the government’s PMKVY project in motorcycle repair, and much more. The training, exposure, and support nurtures an entrepreneurial spirit and level of craftsmanship to thrive in these economically promising domains.

When I came, I didn’t even know how to use a needle, hold a scissor, or even basic stitching. In a short time, I learned the basics and can even make trousers, Palazzo pants and pleated skirts! The best part is I have gotten over my shyness and can connect well with people. I have learnt to remove my hesitations and fears. I am so grateful.

I was impressed by the tailoring class I enrolled in. This center is a great place from basics to master level. They take care of the individual attention of every student and teach using easy to understand. My gratitude to Amma and the SANKALP Project team for giving me this opportunity.
